ABOUT AB GUTHRIE JR.
Indiana-born author whose novel The Way West received the 1950 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction. His other Western-themed works include The Last Valley and These Thousand Hills.
He attended Harvard University on a fellowship and subsequently worked for two decades as the editor of a Kentucky newspaper called The Lexington Leader.
He wrote several mystery novels, including Murders at Moon Dance and Murder in the Cotswolds.
He was born in Indiana and raised in Montana. He had eight siblings, only two of whom survived past childhood.
He and author Cormac McCarthy both won Pulitzer Prizes for their Western-themed novels.
