ABOUT ADDIE LUCIA BALLOU
Poet, author, suffragist, and Spiritualist known for such poetry collections as Driftwood and The Padre's Dream. She spent most of her life in Ohio and Wisconsin.
She was born in Ohio as the fifth child of Mary Eldredge Hart and Alexander Hamilton.
She worked during the Civil War era as a nurse for the Union Army.
She married Albert Darius Ballou, with whom she subsequently had five children.
Like Susan B. Anthony , she fought during the Nineteenth Century for equal rights and suffrage for women.
