ABOUT ADELLE DAVIS
American writer and nutritionist who became known as an advocate of vitamins and unprocessed foods. Her nutrition-themed publications include Let's Eat Right to Keep Fit (1954), Let's Have Healthy Children (1951), and Optimum Health (1935).
She studied home economics at both Purdue University and the University of California-Berkeley. She eventually received a master's degree in biochemistry from the University of Southern California and also worked as a private nutritionist in Oakland and Los Angeles.
She was criticized for making nutritional recommendations not supported by scientific literature.
She was married for a decade to George Edward Leisey, whose two children she adopted. In 1960, she wed attorney Frank Sieglinger.
She and fellow author Jim Davis were both born in Indiana.
