ABOUT AKHIL KUMAR
Commonwealth Boxing Champion in Men's Bantamweight, he received the Arjuna Award for outstanding achievement in sports.
He started boxing at age 13 and his first fight was in Haryana.
He was a monster competitor from 1994-2004, winning the Best Boxer Award 3 times in addition to 12 Gold, 1 Silver, and 4 Bronze medals.
He married Poonam Kumar in 2009.
He and West African fighter Azumah Nelson both took home the gold at the Commonwealth Boxing Championships.
