ABOUT ALEXANDRE DUMAS JR.
French author and playwright who is best known for his novel-turned-melodrama, Camille. Known as Alexandre Dumas, fils, he was the son of the renowned novelist, Alexandre Dumas .
He was born in Paris as the illegitimate son of Marie-Laure-Catherine Labay and Alexandre Dumas . His father seized custody of him and sent him to the prestigious Collège Bourbon.
His works were largely inspired by his unstable early family life.
He married Nadezhda von Knorring in 1864; together, the couple had two daughters. Following his first wife's death, he wed Henriette Régnier de La Brière.
His best-known work, Camille, inspired Giuseppe Verdi 's 1853 opera, La Traviata.
