ABOUT ALFRED CARLTON GILBERT
Inventor of the Erector Set. He created an educational toy that was present in almost every household with children.
He was already an aspiring toymaker, selling magic kits, when he was inspired by the sight of workers installing steel beams for an electrical line.
His Mysto Erector Structural Steel Builder, introduced in 1913, was only one of several educational toys he would come up with. Others included glass-blowing kits, a chemistry set, and a real Atomic Energy Lab complete with radioactive elements.
His family raised him in Salem, Oregon.
He was portrayed by Jason Alexander in the television movie The Man Who Saved Christmas from 2002.
