American actor who is best known for his role as Al Murray in the television series Hey, Jeannie! and as the voice of Officer Dibble in the cartoon series Top Cat. He is also known for his appearances in I Love Lucy , The Duke and The Red Skelton Hour.
He entered the theater as a stage mechanic after World War I.
He attended the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and appeared in many Broadway plays before making his film debut in 1931.
He became a Warner contract player in the early 1930s. He appeared in over 100 films through the course of his career.
His parents were musical comedy performers. He was married to Mary Landee from 1931 to 1962. They had three children.
He starred alongside Lucille Ball , Desi Arnaz and Vivian Vance in the television series I Love You.
