ABOUT ALUN LEWIS
Prominent World War II-era poet whose works include Raider's Dawn and Ha! Ha! Among the Trumpets. He also published short stories and letters; his works in these genres include In the Green Tree and The Last Inspection.
The son of a schoolteacher, he studied at Cowbridge Grammar School. Later, he attended Aberystwyth University and the University of Manchester.
He died in Burma from a self-inflicted, accidental gunshot wound to the head.
He fell in love with an already-married poet named Lynette Roberts. However, he eventually wed Gweno Ellis, a teacher.
He was a contemporary of fellow Welsh-born author Roald Dahl .
