ABOUT AMY LOWELL

Pulitzer Prize-winning imagist poet who is known for free-verse works such as What's O'Clock and East Wind. Her earlier poetry collections include Men, Women and Ghosts; Sword Blades and Poppy Seed; and Can Grande's Castle.

She was a socialite, book collector, and frequent foreign traveler. She published her debut poetry collection, A Dome of Many-Coloured Glass, in 1912.

She was rumored to have had a romantic relationship with actress Ada Dwyer Russell, who may have inspired the erotic poems in Lowell's Pictures of the Floating World collection.

Her brother, Abbott Lawrence Lowell, served as President of Harvard College.

She and fellow author Anne McCaffrey were both born in Massachusetts.
