British screen actress who played the role of Monica Gallagher on the popular television series Shameless. She also appeared on Soldier Soldier, The Lakes, and My Good Friend.

After studying at Godalming College in Surrey, England, she attended the University of Wales.

She co-starred with Johnny Depp in From Hell, a 2001, Jack the Ripper-themed horror film.

She was born in London's Hammersmith borough, and she later settled in Hampstead, England.

She and Catherine Tyldesley both appeared on Coronation Street, a popular British soap opera.
