ABOUT ANOHNI

Singer and pianist who earned massive critical acclaim as the leader of the musical project Antony and the Johnsons, whose sophomore album I Am a Bird Now (2005) received the Mercury Prize. Her first solo album, Hopelessness (2016), was nominated for the Mercury Prize as well as a Brit Award.

She and her family moved to San Francisco, California in the early 80s. She later attended the Experimental Theatre Wing of New York University .

She was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Song for "Manta Ray" from the documentary Racing Extinction (2015), becoming just the second openly transgender person ever to be nominated for an Oscar.

Her birth name is Antony Hegarty. She has three siblings.
