ABOUT ANTOINE MEYER
Poet and mathematician who published the first poetry collection in the Luxembourgish language. The work, entitled E'Schrek ob de Lezeburger Parnassus, appeared in 1829 and was followed three years later by another poetry collection.
He taught mathematics in Luxembourg, the Netherlands, and Belgium. He became a Belgian citizen in 1842.
He studied mathematics at Paris' Sorbonne, where he met many of the most prominent mathematicians of his era.
He was the son of a Luxembourg City shoemaker.
He, like French author Jean de la Fontaine , wrote fables; however, Meyer's fables personified objects rather than animals.
