A theater actor who has performed in plays such as The Owl and the Pussycat and Henry V. He has also appeared in films such as The Fourth Protocol, The Day of the Jackal, and Scrooge.
He had his first acting experience at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden at the age of 14 in a production of Carmen.
He had long running roles in the sitcoms Fresh Fields and May to December.
He married his second wife, Elizabeth Garvie, in 1983.
He appeared in the Son of the Pink Panther, which starred Roberto Benigni .
