He displayed a knack for engineering from childhood, fashioning toboggans from scrap lumber.
His Post-It Notes achieved great popularity because of the adhesive that stuck to any surface and left no residue when detached.
He and his wife had three children together and then later welcomed five grandchildren.
He and Richard Drew , inventor of Scotch Tape, both created a hit product for their employer 3M.
