ABOUT BATTY FISCHER
Photographer who made 10,000 photographs of the changing landscape of Luxembourg City between 1890 and 1958.
He attended Paris' Ecole Dentaire and began his career as a dentist, which gave him the freedom to pursue his real passion, photography, on weekends.
He was an amateur photographer, but he was nevertheless able to assemble his own photographic lenses.
He was one of three children born to clothing-shop owners Josef Fischer and Marguerite Marie Ferron.
Ralph Steiner was another photographer of the era.
