ABOUT BELLA ROSENFELD

Wife and muse of the renowned painter Marc Chagall . After her death, her husband published some of her writings in a collection titled "Burning Lights" in 1946.

She met Chagall on a visit to St. Petersburg, where he worked, and they married soon thereafter.

She was the subject of many of her husband's famous paintings, including "Bella with White Collar" from 1917.

Her family was Jewish, and her father was a wealthy Vitebsk jeweler. She and Chagall were married in 1915; they had a daughter, Ida, in 1916.

Her husband was highly regarded in the artistic community with none other than Pablo Picasso praising him as the only artist of his time who understood the use of color.
