ABOUT BEN EARL LOONEY
Louisiana-born artist best known for his ink sketches of Cajun country. His other works include an oil painting titled Downtown Baton Rouge and a watercolor plantation series called Beau Sejour.
He studied journalism at Louisiana State University and art at Washington, D.C.'s Corcoran College of Art and Design.
In the 1930s, he headed the Art Department at Louisiana State University. Later, he taught in Florida, New York, North Carolina, Massachusetts, and Washington.
Born in Sibley, Louisiana to Molly and Julian Looney, he died of Parkinson's disease at the age of seventy-six.
He and Walter Inglis Anderson , born one year apart, were fellow visual artists and Louisiana natives.
