ABOUT BEN SPEER
Famous as a member of the Southern Gospel group The Speer Family, he was inducted into both the Southern Gospel Music Association Hall of Fame and the Gospel Music Association Hall of Fame in the 1990s. Between the 1950s and his retirement in the early 1990s, he recorded more than seventy albums with his family's band.
He started singing when he was only two years old and later developed his skills as a pianist and music arranger.
He founded a music publishing house called the Ben Speer Music Company and a Southern Gospel training program called Ben Speer's Stamps-Baxter School of Music.
He spent his early days in Double Springs, Alabama. His parents Lena and G.T. Speer and his siblings Rosa, Mary, and Brock were all musicians and members of The Speer Family.
He was born in the same year as fellow Southern Gospel singer George Younce .
