American playwright and actress who is best known for her play Crimes of the Heart.
She graduated from Southern Methodist in 1974.
Her play Crimes of the Heart won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1981, and she was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay in 1986.
She dated actor and director Stephen Toblowsky for many years.
The film adaptation of her play Crimes of the Heart starred Diane Keaton .
