ABOUT BETTY HICKS

Two-time runner up for the U.S. Women's Open who won the 1941 U.S. Women's Amateur and was named AP Female Athlete of the Year that same year.

She turned professional in 1941 and was one of the first to join the LPGA Tour when it was established in 1950.

She later became a golf instructor and was inducted into the LPGA Teaching and Club Professional Hall of Fame among several other specific hall of fames.

She was born in Long Beach and died of Alzheimer's disease in Aptos, California.

She was an early LPGA Tour member like Glenna Collett-Vare .
