ABOUT BHARATHIDASAN
Indian Tamil poet and author whose work addressed social and political themes and popularized the Dravidian (Self-Respect) Movement. His literary works include Thamizhachi Kathi, Kudumba Vilakku, and Saumiyan.
He was a student of Tamil language and literature at College Calve in Pondicherry, India.
His play, Amaithi-Oomai (Peace and Dumbness), received the 1946 Golden Parrot Prize.
He was born into a wealthy merchant family in Pondicherry, India.
He and Subramanya Bharathi were both Tamil Indian poets who dealt with socio-political issues in their work.
