DJ, singer, and songwriter best known for his hit "Chantilly Lace." He also wrote songs such as "White Lightning" and "Running Bear."

Born Jiles Perry "J.P." Richardson, Jr., he was a defensive lineman for his high school football team.

He died in a plane crash with Buddy Holly and Ritchie Valens .

He married Adrianne Joy Fryon on April 18, 1952. They had two children together, Jay and Debra.

He took the seat on the doomed airplane that was supposed to be for Waylon Jennings .
