American film executive who was known as a champion for independent films like Bowling for Columbine and Hotel Rwanda. He was also the executive director of the San Francisco Film Society.
He founded October Films in 1991, and it became one of the biggest independent film distributors in the United States.
The Gotham Independent Film Awards created the Bingham Ray Award in his honor.
He was married to Nancy King, and they had three children.
His company, October Films, produced the Lars Von Trier film Breaking the Waves.
