ABOUT BLAZE STARR

Remembered for her comedic burlesque act, the entertainer known as Blaze Starr had a much-publicized affair with Louisiana politician Earl Kemp Long and penned a memoir, Blaze, that inspired a 1989 movie of the same title.

She began performing after being scouted in Washington, D.C. while working as a doughnut seller.

After giving up her career as a comedienne and burlesque dancer, she became a jewelry maker.

One of eleven children born to Goodlow and Lora Fleming, Fannie Belle Fleming (later known by the stage name Blaze Starr) spent her youth in Wilsondale, West Virginia.

She was once arrested by police officer and future Philadelphia mayor Frank Rizzo .
