Bogomil Bonev
ABOUT BOGOMIL BONEV
After serving during the late 1990s as Bulgarian Minister of the Interior, this Communist-turned-Independent politician led an unsuccessful 2001 campaign for his country's presidency.
Before entering politics, he studied law at Sofia University and worked for a decade as a major crimes detective with the Sofia Police Directorate.
In the late 1990s, he served the Petar Stoyanov government as National Security Secretary.
In 2006, he married Bulgarian musician and television personality Nona Yotova.
Before becoming President of Bulgaria in 2012, politician Rosen Plevneliev , like Bonev, held a ministerial position in the Bulgarian national government.
