ABOUT BRANDEE YOUNGER

Harpist, composer, and bandleader known for jazz and classical music. Her track "Beautiful Is Black" earned a Grammy nomination in the Best Instrumental Composition category. Her original composition "Hortense" was on Beyoncé 's Netflix concert documentary Homecoming .

As a child, she sang gospel and studied the harp. She graduated from The Hartt School in Connecticut. She earned a Master of Music degree at New York University .

In 2007, saxophonist Ravi Coltrane selected her to perform at his mother, Alice Coltrane 's memorial service. In 2024, she won an NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Jazz Album for Brand New Life.

As a teenager, her father introduced her to Alice Coltrane's music.

She has worked with John Legend , Pharoah Sanders , and Lauryn Hill .
