He worked as an oil tanker crewman. He would later begin working in chemical disposal.

His hobbies in hunting, fishing, and swimming helped him in competition on Survivor.

He has a son named Elijah. His uncle is former Survivor competitor Russell Hantz .

Both he and Phillip Sheppard competed on Survivor: Caramoan.
