Soul and R&B legend known for the hit singles "The Oogum Boogum Song" and "Gimme Little Sign." Each of those tracks has accumulated over 30 million streams on Spotify. They were featured on his 1967 album, Oogum Boogum.
He changed his name from Alfred Jesse Smith to Brenton Wood after he graduated high school.
He did not own the rights to any of his songs; they are all owned by the Los Angeles disc jockey, Art Laboe.
His father moved Wood from Louisiana to San Pedro California when he was a child.
He was heavily inspired by the music of Sam Cooke .
