Artist who incorporates the written word into his uplifting and amusing designs, he gained fame from his 1997 book Story People. His Instagram has 80,000 followers keeping up with his everyday thoughts.

His project Hall of Whispers that used the internet to share stories in the early 1990s helped him gather 4,000 stories from around the world.

He studied fibers, or art appreciation, art history, crafts, design, and drawing, in both college and grad school.

He was born in Iowa City and he grew up in Chicago, Illinois.
