ABOUT CARLOS MéRIDA
Cubist painter and muralist known for "El Verano" from 1981 and other Latin American-themed works. He was one of the first to meld European modern painting with Latin American culture.
He had a childhood passion for music. However, after an ear deformity caused him to develop hearing difficulties, he begrudgingly gave up music and concentrated instead on painting.
He worked as a painting assistant to Diego Rivera . The two collaborated in 1922 on several Mexico City murals.
He married Dalilla Galvez in 1919. His daughter, Ana Merida, grew up to be a famous ballet dancer and choreographer.
He was influenced by the work of Paul Klee .
