ABOUT CARLTON WARD JR.
National Geographic Society photographer whose photos of Mali's elephants made the cover of an issue of Smithsonian Magazine. He also co-founded the International League of Conservation Photographers.
He studied biology and anthropology in college.
In 2004, he published his first book The Edge of Africa.
He is the great-grandson of the 25th governor of Florida Doyle E. Carlton.
Both he and Steve McCurry were National Geographic Society photographers.
