Won the 1982 Yale Series of Younger Poets Award for Picture Bride, her second collection of poems.
She relocated to Honolulu from Wahiawa with her family when she was seven years old.
She won the annual Literature Award from the National Endowment for the Arts.
Her parents, Andrew and Ella Song, raised her with her two siblings in Wahaiwa, Hawai'i.
