ABOUT CECIL HOWARD GREEN
One of four co-founders of Texas Instruments who became renowned as a philanthropist in higher education.
His Texas Instrument company pioneered the first portable transistor radio in 1954 and more importantly, the first microchip.
He helped found the University of Texas at Dallas and the Green College at the University of Oxford, as well as contributing greatly to Stanford's main library on campus.
His wife of 60 years, Ida Green, stayed with him through the rough early years when the couple traveled the country working whatever odd jobs came their way.
His company's engineer Jack Kilby created the first integrated circuit in 1958, giving rise to the electronic revolution.
