IBO Light Heavyweight Champion from October 2008 to August 2010, and the WBC Light Heavyweight Champion from April 2012 to June 2013.
He won an under-19 national championship as an amateur boxer.
He entered Ring Magazine's pound-for-pound rankings for the first time in May 2010, coming in at #10.
His father, Rick Dawson, was also a professional boxer for a short time.
He was replaced at the #10 spot on Ring Magazine's rankings list by California's Robert Guerrero .
