ABOUT CHARLES BRACKETT
American novelist, screenwriter and film producer who was also the president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in the 1940s and 50s.
He attended Williams College and Harvard University and won the French Medal of Honor during World War I.
He was a drama critic for The New Yorker during the 1920s and the president of the Screen Writers Guild in the 1930s.
He and his wife, Elizabeth Barrows Fletcher, could both trace their roots to early American settlers.
He wrote Sunset Boulevard, which starred Gloria Swanson .
