ABOUT CHARLES ORWELL BRASCH

New Zealand-born poet and editor who founded a literary journal entitled Landfall. His published poetic works include The Land and the People and Charles Brasch in Egypt.

He attended Waitaki Boys' High School and began writing poetry during his school years. Later, he studied at St. John's College, Oxford.

He served as an intelligence officer in England during World War II.

His father was Hyam Brasch, a lawyer, and his mother was Helene Fels, a member of a prominent merchant family. Like his grandfather Willi Fels, Brasch became a philanthropist and a patron of the Otago Museum.

He was a literary contemporary and Oxford schoolmate of Cecil Day-Lewis .
