American entrepreneur who took over his family's business, the H-E-B supermarkets, and turned it into a multi-billion dollar corporation.

He obtained his Bachelor's degree from the University of Pennsylvania and his MBA from Harvard University.

In 2001, he was awarded the Aguila Azteca medal for his philanthropic work in Mexico.

His parents were Howard Edward Butt Sr. and
Mary Elizabeth Holdsworth.

He and David Murdock were both on the 2013 Forbes Billionaire list.
