The first African American to become a professional golfer. His first attempt to qualify for the PGA Tour was at the 1952 Phoenix Open.
He began caddying at 13.
He won two PGA Tours and one Champions Tour.
He always had the support of his wife Rose.
He broke down barriers for future African Americans to play professional golf, including the great Tiger Woods .
