ABOUT CHARLES TOMLINSON
British poet, scholar, translator, and artist. His literary works include Door in the Wall, Metamorphoses: Poetry and Translation, Cracks in the Universe, and Skywriting.
He studied at Queens' College, Cambridge and later worked as a schoolteacher. He published his debut work, A Peopled Landscape, in 1963.
In Against Extremity, he criticizes confessional poets like Anne Sexton and Sylvia Plath .
He grew up in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, England. He and his wife Brenda met as teenagers.
He mentions in his book Some Americans that he was greatly influenced by the work of William Carlos Williams .
