Early 20th-century actor who played Uncle Henry in The Wizard of Oz . His other films include 1933's Pilgrimage, 1938's Of Human Hearts, and 1944's Follow the Boys.
He performed as a trapeze artist and Broadway actor before beginning his film career.
He also had an iconic 1940 role as Grandpa Joad in The Grapes of Wrath.
He was married to Anna Chance from 1896 until her death in 1943.
He played Judy Garland 's on-screen uncle in the classic film The Wizard of Oz.
