ABOUT CHAVIT SINGSON

Governor (from 2010-2013) of the Philippine province of Ilocos Sur and former Member (from 1987-1992) of the Philippine House of Representatives. Also a businessman, he operated several casinos in his home province.

Before entering politics, he owned a Philippine bus line and a tobacco factory, among other companies.

He was, at different points in his career, affiliated with the Liberal Party; the New Society Democratic Party-People's Power; the Struggle of Democratic Filipinos party; the Force of the Filipino Masses party; and the Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats party.

He fathered eight children and was, at one point, married to Evelyn Verzosa.

In late 2008, Filipina President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo named Singson her Deputy National Security Adviser.
