He competed in downhill skateboarding races while in high school. He later attended Syracuse University where he majored in accounting and finance with a minor in psychology. He ran an illegal grilled cheese business out of his dorm room in college.

Despite making videos about grilled cheese sandwiches, Tyler is extremely lactose intolerant. He studied abroad in Florence, Italy for one semester during college.
