One of the first sub-Saharan Africans to hold a doctorate in mathematics, though he was known more for his political career.
He attended Cambridge and MIT before going on to teach in Lagos.
He was one of the founders of the Dynamic Party of Nigeria and served in multiple posts in Nigerian government, including in the National Revenue Mobilization Commission.
He and his wife Melinda raised four children together.
Obi and Ada Lovelace are both famous mathematicians.
