ABOUT CHRIS BOND
Wheelchair rugby player known for winning gold at the 2012 London Paralympics and the 2016 Rio Paralympics. At the age of 19, he was diagnosed with leukemia and contracted a flesh-eating bacterial infection that resulted in both legs being amputated below the knee, as well as four fingers from his right hand and his left wrist. His chrisbondaus Twitter account serves to promote the Paralympics and other events.
He played rugby as a child. He began swimming at the Australian Institute of Sport following the amputations.
He made his national team debut at the 2011 Great Britain Cup.
He and his identical twin brother were raised in the Australian Capital Territory.
Nathan Cleary is another prominent Australian rugby star.
