Christopher Brennan
ABOUT CHRISTOPHER BRENNAN
Australian poet and author known for The Burden of Tyre, Like a Dream of Stone, and other works. The Fellowship of Australian Writers established the Christopher Brennan Award for Poetry in his honor.
He was born in Sydney to Irish immigrant parents. As a young man, he studied Classics at the University of Sydney.
He was fired from his position at the University of Sydney's library as a result of the dual scandal of his divorce and constant intoxication.
He divorced Anna Elisabeth Werth in 1922. Later, he was romantically involved with Violet Singer, who became the subject of many of his poems.
He was a literary contemporary of fellow Australian poet Banjo Paterson .
