He played college basketball for California State University, Los Angeles.

He was once featured on the A&E show Intervention with his son, a drug addict.

In addition to his son, he had a daughter with Kate Vernon . He has three daughters and one son by four different women. He has been married three times.

Like musician Nick Perri , he once struggled with drug addiction.
