Longtime actress known for her award-winning role as Carrie Mathison on the Showtime series Homeland . She also played Angela Chase on the high school drama series My So-Called Life and was cast as Juliet alongside Leonardo DiCaprio in the 1996 film Romeo + Juliet .

She made her film debut in 1994's Little Women . She later attended Yale University , but dropped out to focus on acting.

Her performance as the title character in the HBO biopic Temple Grandin earned her an Emmy, a Golden Globe, a Satellite and a Screen Actors Guild Award.

She married Hugh Dancy in 2009. She had her first child, a son named Cyrus, in 2012. They welcomed a second son in 2018. In January 2023, they announced they were expecting their third child together. They welcomed a daughter in July 2023.

She played Cosette in the 1998 film Les Misérables (1998) , where Liam Neeson portrayed the great character Jean Valjean.
