ABOUT CLAUDE NOBS

Founder and former general manager of the Montreux Jazz Festival.

He became director of the Tourism Office of Montreux when hew as 31 years old.

He is referenced in the Deep Purple song "Smoke on the Water" in the lyrics "Funky Claude was running in and out pulling kids out the ground."

He was born in Montreux, Switzerland.

In his first organized Jazz festival, saxophonist Charles Lloyd was one of the main attractions.
