NHL Hall of Fame goaltender who was the first goalie to wear a mask.

He joined the Ottawa Senators to back up another Hall of Fame goalkeeper, Percy LeSeur.

Over the course of his three championship runs with the Senators, he developed a drinking problem that caused a highly public scandal with the team.

He grew up in Ottawa, Ontario.

He wore a makeshift face mask for a couple of games to protect his broken nose, three decades before Jacques Plante popularized the mask.
