ABOUT DALE GARDNER

Former NASA astronaut who was part of the Space Shuttle Challenger mission STS-8 in 1983.

He studied engineering physics at the University of Illinois.

He served as mission specialist on Space Shuttle mission STS-51-A, his last spaceflight.

He moved to Colorado with his wife following his career with NASA.

He and Guion Bluford flew on STS-8.
